Day 10 - Officially out of the East

We are now doubly sure we are out of the East as we have crossed the Mississippi and are now now longer running on EDT but have lost an hour on most of our devices.  The rain gods however have followed us and it has poured a couple of times already even before dinner.

We started the day hoping to see the Arboretum in the New Orleans City Park but alas it is closed on Mondays.  We then tried the New Orleans Art Museum but that too is closed on Monday.  The only thing open in the area was a sculpture garden that was a very good and maybe even better alternative.

Rodin Sculpture
The sculpture is named Overflow but as it is made entirely of letters I would have called him it Man of Letters.

We then proceeded with a single charge to go to our destination for the night, the home of Cajun and Zydeco music, Lafayette, Louisiana.  Since we were there early and we hit town on a dead day we went to see the attraction that Trip Advisor said was the best in town.  This lead us to the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist which was truly a magnificent place.  Beautifully designed, well maintained and with great stained glass it is going to be the first entry in a new feature called Church of the Day.  Since we hit the Bible Belt there have been a number of interesting churches so we, mostly Larry, regretted not having that category in the list but that changes as of today.

Regular Features
Statistics Corner
States involved: We stayed in Louisiana all day today
Final mileage for the day TBA

Charging
Baton Rouge LA   60 minutes  while we had a  nice lunch at the Acme Oyster Bar

Song of the Day: Allons a Lafayette - Michael Doucet and Beausoleil   We have been Cajun music fans for longer than we have been married and Beausoleil was the first band we heard playing this Cajun classic.  Lafayette is mentioned in songs by Paul Simon, Lucinda Williams and Nanci Griffith but they aren't Cajun artists.

Coolest Car of the Day:  Slim Pickings today  The best thing was a baby blue '58 Chevy pickup.

Church of the Day: St. John the Evangelist in Lafayette, LA

Best thing of the Day - Larry and Michelle
Even though we both love sculpture gardens and the church was spectacular dancing in a Cajun dance hall in Lafayette was a two+step ahead.

The band was there all the time, the big guy was there most of the time.  He had to rest for long periods between dances.
